8th Annual Getaway: Historic Greater Boston and Plimoth Plantation

Saturday & Sunday, November 16-17, 2019

On November 16, after an early morning service at Union Temple with Rabbi Kolin, our 8th Annual Getaway begins with a trip to Plimoth Plantation. Founded in 1947, Plimoth is a living history museum that recreates Pilgrim life in the original 17th century Plymouth, MA colony. The visit will start with a lunch at the Plantation’s Plentiful Café followed by a tour with Jewish educator Malka Benjamin. Many of the foundations of Pilgrim life, including Thanksgiving (Sukkot maybe?) and the study of the Hebrew Bible began with their associations with Jews in Amsterdam after they fled England.

After our tour of Plimoth we’ll check-in at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Dedham, MA and then the bus will take us to a dining district with numerous restaurants for dinner and then a return to the hotel.

Sunday will begin with a continental breakfast at the hotel and a 9:30AM drive to Boston’s acclaimed Museum of Fine Arts. You’ll have time to explore the nation’s 5th largest museum with over 450,000 works of art. Of particular interest is the museum’s Judaica collection highlighting three centuries of Jewish decorative arts and ritual objects.

Next we will tour Temple Israel. Our focus will be the temple’s vast array of engagement programs that have helped it become New England’s largest temple. After the temple we’ll enjoy a late lunch at Coolidge Corner/Brookline, the center of Boston’s Jewish community.

We’ll return to Union Temple around 9:30PM and Temple Beth Shalom v’ Emeth around 10:00PM.
