Founded in 1990, Union Temple Preschool has provided a generation of children with a solid foundation for their education. We welcome children of all faiths and backgrounds and support our students’ diverse learning styles.
Our curriculum embraces a multi-sensory, child-centered, play-based approach that supports children’s individual learning styles. Classrooms are filled with books, blocks, dress-up materials, arts and crafts supplies, and other items important for both academic and social development.
We highlight Jewish celebrations, and emphasize the Jewish traditions and values of caring for others: being a good friend, contributing to the community, and tikkun olam — repairing the world.
We provide students with exciting opportunities to expand their world, build social skills, and think independently. For example, children work together to build an imaginary wood block town filled with houses, stores, streets, and more. They watch day-by-day as caterpillars weave cocoons, and wait eagerly for the butterflies to emerge, predicting when each step will occur. They witness chicks slowly pecking their way out of eggs and even get to hold the fluffy newborns!
All children participate in weekly yoga and music classes, led by specialists. Three and four-year-olds enjoy an innovative art program developed with and led by the Brooklyn Museum. Four-year-olds also have weekly swimming lessons at the Eastern Athletic Club.
We offer a variety of scheduling options: half days for Twos, and full or half days for Threes and Fours. Our full-day program includes Spanish or German on Mondays and Wednesdays, cooking on Tuesdays, soccer on Thursdays, and art on Fridays. Early drop-off is available at 8:30AM daily for children of all ages; After School is available for Threes and Fours from 3:00-6:00PM daily.
Each classroom is staffed with a head teacher and an assistant teacher. Every head teacher is state-certified, experienced, and holds an M.A. in education. In addition to the classroom teaching team, several assistant teachers rotate through the classrooms to offer support and enhance our low student-to-teacher ratio. Every week, specialists join us for music, yoga, Spanish and German classes.
The preschool is located on the fourth floor of the Union Temple building. Our large, bright classrooms are arranged with centers for dramatic play, painting, block building, music, and books.
Union Temple Preschool is fully licensed by the New York City Department of Health, Bureau of Day Care.
